How Life has Changed

When I was growing up, the world was a lot nicer. There, I have said it. There were no computers, no Internet (and I like both), cars were simple, roads were narrow, but life felt free and full of adventures. Now, there are way too many dangers everywhere. Or are there really?

Creative Kids (2)

20 years ago, I worked in a project called “Creative Thinking”, where I learned that creativity does not have to be an inherited quality. The project aimed to prove kids as young as 6 or 7 years old could learn the laws of physics. We found that could only be done when the kids learned to think “outside the box”. I worked in Creative Thinking for 4 years and left to develop the broader “Garden of Eden” program, because I thought young kids needed other things besides physics.

Confession of an Author

Although my mom could not read properly, my dad read a lot of books. He was a crossword puzzle and word search person and eagerly solved everything in the daily and weekend papers when I was a kid. Most of the books in our home library he won by sending his answers to the newspapers. Inside each one was a sticker saying he had won this book as a first, second or third prize. So you see, for me, books were rewards since before I was able to read.

Creative Kids (1)

Be yourself. Everyone else is taken - Oscar Wilde

Creativity is more important for kids today than knowledge. Kids know a lot more than we knew when we were their age, but for them to step up and be successful, they need something extra. They need to be able to assess where everyone else is going and become unique and different.

Homeless World Cup

If you watch any news broadcast or read any newspaper, it is very easy to get a doom and gloom feeling on a daily basis. In fact, bad news seems to be propagated a lot faster than good news in the workplace, in social circles and on social media sites (many of the most popular articles seem to be horrible). This is why I was so excited to find the Homeless World Cup.

Finding Cancer

My doctor found skin cancer on my head. He said it was the best kind there was, which does not spread, and that I was lucky. He will just cut it out himself and I will be healthy again. WRONG!

Are Your Kids Free?

Yesterday, Ronit wrote about her experiences with kids who were mentally stuck in norms and invisible rules at the age of 6. Their creativity was stifled by notions of “right” and “wrong” and external opinions about what is pretty, messy or appropriate. Today, I would like to share with you some more signs of kids being stuck like this, along with a wonderful video clip.

Colorful Kids

Every time I see a blind man, I am thankful for my ability to see the richness around me and remind myself that I do not need something to be taken away from me in order to appreciate it. Many people have good vision, but cannot see that the world is actually colorful, with many shades, with great landscapes and beauty all around. You see, it is not enough for beauty to be there. We must also learn to appreciate it.

Affirmations for a Happy Mind

Young customer service operator

Whether we speak out loud or we are in silence, our brain is in continuous chatter. We have thoughts about things to do, feelings, expectations, ideas, reminders, theories and conversations. Here is an example of my mind chatter in the first 30 seconds in the morning. I still had my eyes closed and said nothing at all:

“What’s that noise? … What’s the time? … 6:30 … Oh, no, Noff has swimming today … I wanted to put a bottle in the freezer for her … I forgot … It’s going to be hot today … I should have gone to bed early last night … I talked to my sister … I miss her … Two more seconds … I have to get up now … I’ll go to sleep early tonight … Yes, I said that yesterday too … I’ll meditate … “

Things I Want My Kids to Know: Listen!

Many times, when we face difficulties, we look for ways to ease our load. The first thing that comes to mind is “Change your place, change your luck”. Although this is a Jewish proverb, I think most people want to believe in it, regardless of their faith. This is why people change jobs, move to another place and (unfortunately) switch to a new relationship so easily.

People want to believe that changing their address will change their life, when in fact it is their attitude that needs to change.
