How to Help Kids with Fear

Fears are very natural in every person’s life. From an early stage of our life, we are scared of various things. As we grow older and learn more about life, more of the world makes sense to us and many of our fears disappear.

Unfortunately, many kids are not treated seriously when they express their fears and this makes them even more afraid. Fear has many faces and symptoms and when it is not handled well, it can get out of proportion and lead to growing up with anxiety, panic attacks and depression.

Choices and Illusions

Essential Pillars of Success

Since I was 16, I was fascinated with the human mind. When I discovered my ability to choose my life, I said to myself I needed to remember that moment in my life, the time when I passed from being part of the herd to being a leader. From a confused state of mind, I changed to being clear, successful and happy. Straight afterwards, I also got a boyfriend (guess who) and that made life even more fun.

I remember the library as one of my favorite places. Like James Redfield says in The Celestine Prophecy, I believe the people we meet are not there by chance. Well, I have always thought the books I happen to read are not there by coincidence. Our school librarian was very happy I was there every day, taking a book and actually reading it. She used to welcome me happily every day and say, “Ronit, I have just the right book for you”. She would then hand me a book about behavior, psychology, morals and the human mind. One day, she brought me a mind research book that talked about the brain and philosophy. I think this book started my journey in the research world, learning as much as I could about how the brain works and giving me my greatest advantage in the special education arena. My rule was, is and will be…

My Psychic Mom (2)

I first suspected that my mom was psychic when I was 10 and she told me how my great-grandfather came into her dream and told her she would stay in my dad’s family forever. The second time was about 15 years later, when I came to visit my parents on one of our monthly visits.

Dark Chocolate Girl

Last week, during one of my workshop for “Together for Humanity”, one of the kids came to us in the break. She stood at the entrance of the community room, hesitating a bit. She was a beautiful looking girl, tall and dark, and looked like she had come from Africa.

“Can I ask you something?” she asked in a shy voice.

My Psychic Mom

I suspected that my mom was psychic when I visited my late grandparents’ house and saw a photo of an old man, with a long gray beard and a special turban on his head. It was a black and white photo that stood proudly on top of my grandparents’ TV.

Heavy Thoughts

In the past few months, I have been delivering a program about diversity and acceptance at various schools. In one of my classes, the kids asked about being angry at people and carrying this anger. So we had a serious talk about forgiving and letting go.

How do You Wash the Dishes?

Only when you see someone else washing the dishes in a strange way do you notice that there is more than one way of doing things. When my mom came over to our place and watched a friend of mine washing the dishes, she almost fainted.

Happiness is in Your Hands

From the first year of my Special Education studies, I had this debate with Gal. Gal, who has a degree in Biology and Computer Science, thought that people’s behavior was all genetic and I, as an educator, believed it was all taught and could be changed. For years, we had those discussions. Over time, I learned there are many things that are mostly hereditary and Gal learned that even they can be changed with education.

How to Study For Tests: The Basics

Student with a book

Who is not afraid of tests?

When I was a school kid (and not a very good one, mind you), I hated tests. I used to be so scared I was sick on the day. Sometimes, this worked and I got to stay at home, but most of the times I still had to go to school and take the test. The more I was afraid of tests, the worse my grades were. You could say that the worse I thought I would do, the more I feared the test.

Pushing Your Teens to Find a Job

Only 3% of teens going into higher education straight after high school actually finish their choice of study and work in that profession for about 5 years after finishing studying.
