Make a list: Friends and Friendships

This entry is part 3 of 49 in the series Make a List

Our definition of friendship evolves over the years. At first, our friends are the kids we play with, even when we envy them or hate them. As we grow up, our definition becomes deeper and more meaningful, but also more selective.

Motivating Kids (13)

This entry is part 13 of 19 in the series Motivating Kids

Affirmations are a good way to encourage your kids to move forward. Instead of telling them you do not want them to give up, you give them an affirmation that tells them not to give up.

Criticism No More

Absolutely everybody receives some criticism in life. Some of us have the misfortune of growing up with critical parents, while others bump into their first critic at school, but we all have to face criticism at some point, right?

Make a list: About Myself

This entry is part 2 of 49 in the series Make a List

When you present yourself to an unknown person, you need to examine your thoughts, beliefs and feelings towards yourself and this may not be easy. When people are asked to describe themselves, they sometimes question whether this is who they are or who they think they are. For the purpose of making this list, who you think you are is all there is, so just write that.

Motivating Kids (12)

This entry is part 12 of 19 in the series Motivating Kids

One very gentle and effective way of reminding kids all the things I have mentioned before is to introduce them to quotes. When someone else has said something, your kids may find it easier to accept.

Inside We Are All Kids

Don’t get me wrong, it is OK to be grown up most of the time. It is OK to work, to clean up, to look after the kids and to be nice to my wife. But all this being-an-adult business requires energy and very often self-denial of good things and sometimes, I simply run out of resources. Luckily, I have kids!

Balancing Act

While many people are in a constant battle to get more and more things in life, this brings with it more and more of the things they do not want. The Genie of the Universe who grants our wishes cannot separate the good from the bad and provides both. You ask for more money and the Genie gives you a promotion with more time away from your kids.

Motivating Kids (11)

This entry is part 11 of 19 in the series Motivating Kids

When kids pursue their desires, whether they allow you to motivate them or not, they face difficulties and may be discouraged many time along the way. In fact, every unsuccessful event may cause them to give up. Their natural reaction may not be “I should try something else” but “Maybe this is not important enough to me”. After all, they are just kids and this is a natural reaction for most people.

Make a list: List Making

This entry is part 1 of 49 in the series Make a List

One day, I took my daughter Eden, who was 16 years old at the time, to a workshop I ran with a group of women about life skills and relationships. When we reached the positive thinking and happiness part of the workshop, I asked everyone to go home and think of a 100 things that would make them happy.

Motivating Kids (10)

This entry is part 10 of 19 in the series Motivating Kids

Sometimes, the hardest thing for parents is to get their kids to accept their attempts to motivate them. Kids may treat parental attempts to motivate them as nagging or forcing when they have not given their permission to help them. Whether you like it or not, help is something that needs to be accepted.
