My Psychic Mom (2)

This entry is part 2 of 6 in the series My Psychic Mom

I first suspected that my mom was psychic when I was 10 and she told me how my great-grandfather came into her dream and told her she would stay in my dad’s family forever. The second time was about 15 years later, when I came to visit my parents on one of our monthly visits.

Happy Wish List for a Happy Year

Wow, it is already 2009 and I hope you have a huge list and many wishes for the new year. Every year, Gal and I sit with the kids and write lists of wishes and goals for the year to come. It is a ceremony that is most important to me and I nag until we find time to sit and write our wishes down.

The Greatest Gift: Stay Together

Cute baby boy with food on his face
This entry is part 16 of 34 in the series Save Your Marriage

Angela’s welcome party was a happy event for many of her parents’ friends and family. While everyone was celebrating her arrival into the world, Angela was asleep in her baby carriage, wearing the most beautiful angel outfit. The pile of presents next to her baby carriage was huge and at the end of the evening, Sam, the old manager at the event hall, helped her dad, Ian, put all the gifts in the car.
“Bless her. She has so many gifts”, the old manager said to Angela’s dad while helping him to load a big pink box with curly ribbons.

“Yes, she does”, said Ian excitedly.

Ian had been a bit worried before Angela’s arrival. He had been looking forward to the delivery day but at the same time worried about providing for his family. The list of things a baby needs had been so big that during the party, he kept looking at the gifts and was happy to see them piling high.

“We really need all the gifts”, Ian said to the old manager.

“Not really”, smiled Sam, “What you need is something that can’t be packed with ribbons”, and he held up a toy that made a funny noise.

Ian looked at the old man, not really understanding. He stopped and looked at him in surprise, “What do you mean? What do we need?”

“One more toy, another nice dress or furniture will make you happy, but she needs something that cannot be bought with money”, said Sam and handed Ian an envelope with a greeting card.

“This is your invoice. Thank you for choosing our venue”, he shook Ian’s hand, smiled and went back into the building, passing by Angela’s mom, Louise, at the entrance.

Ian opened the envelope and took out a greeting card with a photo of a large golden gift box. He opened the card. The invoice was folded inside it. Ian took out the invoice and read the greeting, which was written in pink.

Congratulations!

Dark Chocolate Girl

Last week, during one of my workshop for “Together for Humanity”, one of the kids came to us in the break. She stood at the entrance of the community room, hesitating a bit. She was a beautiful looking girl, tall and dark, and looked like she had come from Africa.

“Can I ask you something?” she asked in a shy voice.

Why You Should Not Ask "Why"

Sometimes, our expectations are not fulfilled and our immediate response is to find the reason. So we start asking “why” in an attempt to bring order back into our world, but this can get us in trouble if we do not keep our focus positive.

What if

Money
This entry is part 16 of 20 in the series Self Esteem Mini-Course

Last time, I wrote about the conflict between the two minds – the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Confusion is a big sign of the war between the two minds and getting to know ourselves is a good way to find balance, self esteem and happiness.

The “if” part of the interview with myself deals with our most precious desires to love, to be loved, to have control, power, stability, success and self esteem. It is very important for us to be honest with ourselves and discover what we want in life.

My Psychic Mom

This entry is part 1 of 6 in the series My Psychic Mom

I suspected that my mom was psychic when I visited my late grandparents’ house and saw a photo of an old man, with a long gray beard and a special turban on his head. It was a black and white photo that stood proudly on top of my grandparents’ TV.

Emotional Bill of Rights

Every New Year’s Day gives people hope. I think it is in the air – vibes of a new start, vibes of new goals and many new desires for a new us, a new life and even a new world. We all want the good to increase and the not-so-good to shrink until it fully disappears and we wish that the new year will be full of health, wealth, love, friendship and happiness (what else is there?).

War Between Two Minds

Man with muscly arms drawn behind him
This entry is part 15 of 20 in the series Self Esteem Mini-Course

To increase your self esteem, it is good if you know what you can appreciate in yourself. People with low self esteem simply do not realize how much or how well they do things. For many of the big questions in life, they answer “I’ve never thought about it” or “I don’t know”.

The subconscious mind, however, knows very well what it thinks about itself and many times, we react in a way that we do not understand.

We want to be fit, but we eat too much, we want to have good relationships, yet we fight a lot, we want to succeed, but we do not even try. We want to reach out and touch someone, but instead we lose contact.

This happens when the conscious mind and the subconscious mind are not going in the same direction. The conscious mind does not know why it does that to itself.

How to Survive the Holiday Blues (part 2)

As I described in How to Survive Holiday Blues (part 1), the Christmas holidays can be stressful times. Family matters and conflicts in relationships are just one factor of making the holidays a depressing experience.

The bad news: every person has some of the blues feelings during the holidays to some extent.

The good news: it is possible to change some things and enjoy the holidays.
