Last week, I wrote about self-kindness and how to write a list of “100 ways to be kind to myself”. Kindness spreads like a ripple, so it must start from within us. I hope that by now, you have a basic list, but if you do not, please stop reading, make your own list and only then continue to read my list below.
Why?
The process of making up the list sends a message to your subconscious that you are important. However, if you copy someone else’s list, this does not happen.
Here is a list of things you can do to be kind to yourself. Only take those that suit your personality and adjust them to your preferences and to what makes you happy.
100 Ways to Be Kind to Myself
- Make a dish of a food you like eating (Butter Chicken. Yum).
- Smile to yourself in the mirror.
- Buy yourself a gift.
- Clear your closet to clear some space in your heart. This will invite New into your life.
- Ask for help!
- Make a list of things that make you happy.
- Set a goal.
- Get enough sleep.
- Meditate.
- Plan. This gives you spare time as a buffer when things do not go just the way you wanted them.
- Have a birthday party and make that day a special day for yourself.
- Celebrate your birthday for a month. One day is not enough to tell your mind that you are important. Have a birthmonth.
- Print encouraging quotes and hang them around your home to keep your spirits up.
- Make a list of 100 things you like, love, value and appreciate about yourself. This will give you 100 kind things straight away.
- Take the time to read a book.
- Take the time to have a hot bath.
- Soak in the sun. If you do not like the sun like I do, soak in the coolness of the snow, ocean or pool.
- Take a big vacation every year.
- Go to the movies as a date.
- Set aside time to achieve your goal(s)
- Be assertive!
- Express yourself.
- Hang around inspiring people.
- Be true to who you are.
- Eat healthy food.
- Have a hobby.
- Tell yourself, “Well done!”
- Drink plenty of water.
- Organize your surroundings. This will help you relax and organize your mind, too.
- Spend time in nature.
- Forgive!
- Offer to help someone else. It is actually an opportunity to feel better about yourself.
- Learn something new!
- Do some physical activity to feel good about yourself.
- Try new things.
- Send your younger self an encouraging letter.
- Send your future self an encouraging letter.
- Use your money wisely.
- Stop comparing yourself to others. Be you and let them be them.
- Expand your comfort zone by doing something a little difficult and/or a little scary.
- Save money for a rainy day.
- Imagine your perfect day, having superpowers or having so much money you do not need to work.
- Learn to say “No”.
- Prioritize and do only important stuff.
- Take “media off days”. Hide your mobile phone, turn off your computer, switch off your TV and see what happens.
- Be honest!
- Listen to the music you love.
- Dance.
- Trust your gut instincts and follow them.
- Read the biographies of people who inspire you.
- Stop complaining. Whatever happens, find something good about it.
- Spend some time on your own to filter out others’ thoughts and opinions and get to know yourself better.
- Write a self-love or self-kindness journal.
- Seize the day.
- Write the 100 things you want to do in your lifetime and follow that list from time to time. When you achieve something, get it out of the list and add a new item instead. A “Bucket List” is not something we need to write when we are going to die. We need one from the beginning of our life.
- Dress up just the way you like and ignore what others might be thinking about it.
- Do not judge yourself and others. Accept life the way it is.
- Stop compromising and go after what you want.
- Have real friends that nourish you, not the virtual, sarcastic ones on Facebook.
- Get away from people who do not support you in life, even if they are close family members. If you cannot get away from them entirely, limit your contact with them.
- Take action. This is your power to change your world. Whatever you think of doing, do it!
- Celebrate your successes.
- Do more of what makes you feel confident.
- Do a “movie marathon” of the movies you like.
- Laugh.
- Set a budget and stick to it.
- Have fun! This is your reward for the hard work.
- Don’t be critical towards yourself or others.
- Go to the dentist twice a year.
- Be special. Be yourself!
- Become an activist and promote things that are dear to you.
- Let go of perfectionism. Life is a lot more fun messy.
- Put on makeup if it makes you feel good.
- Eat fruits and vegetables.
- Write a list of 100 reasons why life is beautiful. This will give you great motivation for getting up in the morning.
- Have your own opinion, regardless of what others think.
- Do not try to fit in at all costs.
- Get a massage.
- Follow your passion.
- Clean your teeth, floss and brush twice a day (at least).
- Find a happy place and go to whenever you feel down. This happy place can be physical or just in your head.
- Go on an adventure.
- Make a list of 100 empowering beliefs that will serve you well in life.
- Remind yourself that everything will be OK!
- Challenge yourself.
- Create clear boundaries between you and the world around you.
- Watch the sunset.
- Bake or cook for yourself.
- Watch the sunrise somewhere special and capture it to remember later on.
- Create a routine to give yourself some sense of certainty.
- Take a day off when you need it without being sick.
- Write a list of things you have overcome throughout your life. It will be a great reminder that you are stronger than you think.
- Be grateful!
- Let go of past pains. Going over them again and again is self-cruelty. Keep your focus on Here and Now.
- Fantasize about a great future.
- Go traveling. When we travel far away, we find ourselves!
- Fantasize about being a hero.
- Eat dessert first. If you feel like it, eat only dessert.
- Dream and imagine what you would do if you ruled world.
- Get professional help.
So, here is my list of 100 ways to be kind to myself. I hope it helps you get the idea of what you need to do. Now, there is no excuse for not making this list. Aim to reach 100 items, because you need a variety to choose from. Once the list is done, look at it and do something from it every day.
When you go to bed, ask yourself, “How many things did I do today to be kind to myself?” Then, answer the question. The creature in your mind will eventually think you are important enough and bring love, success and happiness into your life.
Be kind!
Ronit
