Well, I am not really talking only about young kids but about kids until the age of 20 - the only reason I say 20 is because my eldest is 20.
kids say " I am bored" in all ages, though, when they are younger, they say it more because they are raised to think that mom ( usually) is the entertainment coordinator. ( parents, parents, take responsibility on this)
I have kids from the whole range 7-20 and each of them said that. It is probably very natural for kids to expect a grown up to help them. it is not a " pain" behavior, it is a cry for help!
Ice cream is fun and friends is the most educational thing to do - I do not know why you think they are not educational. fun is the key to learning and happiness. if kids can't find fun in what they do, they will not do it well. (nor grownups)
you must have very special kids because I have been working with thousands of kids over the last 25 years and they all loved puzzles and reading - my own kids read over an hour a day at home- every day! and they love it so much. for them it is the ultimate fun.
Maybe it is a good idea to find something that make you happy and try to deliver this happy enthusiasm to your kids.
Are you sure that out of the 100 things you can do with your kids, you could not find anything that would keep them happy???
Remember, advice is not about what I suggest but what about you choose to take.
I recommend you to read the other chapters, you may find something there and if you do not find comfort there you may want to examine all the posts in this site, it may help you with motivating and parenting your kids to think of life as fun and exciting adventure.
Happy day
Always!
Ronit

Kids grow up you know, and everybody's advise on "im bored!" is for little kids. i know ice cream and friends isnt educational, but if you just check over what you've written, none of your educational things are nearly fun. being active, and laughing, having a good time is what a mother wants, not fot their kids to "learn" when they ask what fUN thing to do. ps- kids in middle-year ages HATE reading, and puzzles, and learning to *pick up the pieces* after a good game. secret languages are not good because then you never know what they're saying to you, and you should keep with your kids speaking ENGLISH. NO concerts in the park are the *in* bands, so you can forget about that too! Just a little note- your advice isnt that great.

You must be talking about little, young kids. if you didnt know, kids at the ages of 11-14 say "mom, im So Bored.."
