Thank you for your comment.
Yes, I do think we can suggest to families to get back to open air and camp fires. I do not think people remember how it was.
When we have earth hour we talk to kids about times without light and TV and stove and microwave and it is funny all those things are so part of our lives that we forget how it was without them.
Good on you for saying "NO". I hear from parents it is hard to say "no" to their kids who wants gadgets and I say it shows confidence in your values and beliefs and your kids won't have to stop asking, they will appreciate you for this.
You cannot replace attention with IPod or Xbox and if your kids make it sound like " if you love me you will buy me" all you need to do is say it again and again " I love you so much that I will not do that to you and I will not buy you"
Thanks for reading and thanks for commenting.
Happy week
Ronit

So many families that I see in my job think that if they give their children all those things that they request, they will live in a happy family. So many younger chidlren -- as young as 2 or 3 yrs old have a TV, Xbox or whatever in their room, and I even know parents to have fenced off the computer area so they can get onto the internet while the baby is crawling around but cannot get to them and wonder why the baby screams at them... DAH!!!!!
If more families had less TV.s playstations and internet access, I am sure that families would stay together for longer and be much happier -- there would be less employment opportunitiese for us counsellors (which would be great) but instead the more TV's computer games and TV games that are invented -- I know that I will always get a job in this crazy world... And although I do not enjoy it, I would rather stand firm with my choice to my own children saying NO to their pleas for more than 4 hrs a week of internet time and 4 hrs a week of playstation time and please buy another game... etc etc... I just say no!! and leave it at that -- I am sure that one day they will stop asking --- and by then I will be old and deaf so wont care.. :) Keep up the great work...
One other thing ---- I wonder if suggesting to families to get back to open air, camp fires with damper and billy tea will inspire families to spend time together.... Thats our relaxation time ..
Cheers

It is great to see that you have read some of the articles here in the blog.
Your comments are really valuable.
I do believe parents need more time together because if they don't, it is going to be devastating for their kids.
You are a lucky person to have your parents still together, you can read here about how hard it is to stay together

I hope you are an inspiration to your kids too.
Happy day
Ronit

Really to the point. Parents are people and they need to maintain their relationship.
I know my parents do the things you mentioned and they are happily together for many years. We are all reaping the rewards of their decisions to this day. My siblings and I are sure about their love for each other and for us.

I loved the way you explained the need for parents to spend time together.
