I learned over the years that kids like the playing bit and not the toy itself. I had a doll when I was young and it was something my mom had made for me and I loved it very much. I could play hours with it. I can understand what you mean about games that make kids think or toys that make them think and that their actions make a difference, I agree. Toys are tools to help kids develop and not just to keep them busy. However... sometimes kids like playing with toys that they know what the end will be - it makes them feel safe.
